Worldwide spreading of economic crisis
We model the spreading of a crisis by constructing a global economic network and applying the susceptible–infected–recovered (SIR) epidemic model with a variable probability of infection. The probability of infection depends on the strength of economic relations between a given pair of countries and the strength of the target country. It is expected that a crisis that originates in a large coun...
متن کاملThe Worldwide Economic Impact of Neurogenic Bladder.
Costs of neurogenic bladder vary widely and depend on a number of factors including severity of disease, symptomatology, patient insurance, and devices required. Recognition of how each treatment strategy will impact the patient financially could help guide selection of treatment as well as improve compliance with the chosen regimen. We have attempted to provide an overview of long term cost co...
متن کاملQuantifying industrial quality in economic models
Due to several possible production modes, an industrial output may have different quality levels. We present a method to select the optimum production mode, based on cost and quality considerations. We introduce the idea of a Pareto efficient quality level that we relate with the concept of value loss. The traditional tradeoff cost versus quality is studied in a formalism that allows industrial...
متن کاملWorldwide distribution of soybean-cyst nematode and its economic importance.
Soybean-cyst nematode (Heterodera glycines) was first reported from Japan in 1915. It has since been reported from Korea (1936), Manchuria (1938), the United States (USA) (1954), and Egypt (1968). It is of major concern to soybean producers only in Japan and the USA. Soybean was a major crop in the Orient by 1915 but it was grown very little elsewhere. Since that time its cultivation has spread...
متن کاملExperiments with an Economic Model of the Worldwide Web
We present a simple model in which the worldwide web (www) is created by the interaction of selfish agents, namely document authors, users, and search engines. We show experimentally that power law statistics emerge very naturally in this context, and that the efficiency of the system has certain monotonicity properties.
